Hyaluronic Acid- A Hit Or Miss?

Hyaluronic acid, otherwise known as Hyaluronan, is a crystal clear and serum like consistency substance that naturally occurs in our bodies and is produced as well. It is highly concentrated in our skin, eyes and areas having connective tissues. Now comes the question, what is its use/ what does it do? The main function of this substance is to retain water to keep body tissues lubricated and moist for smooth functioning.

Now the question comes what’s the hype around this product? Since its major function is lubrication and retaining moisture, its a wonder product for the skin, since skin is our largest organ and is comprised largely of water, roughly 70 %.

What happens as we age, is we lose the naturally occurring collagen and hyaluronic acid in our bodies which leads to easier dehydration of the skin. This results in fine lines and wrinkles making the skin lose its youthful plumpness and making it look less healthy. Also, along with age, other factors play major roles like weather, for example harsh winters or summers can wreak havoc on your skin and accelerate the aging process. Hence its imperative to take care of your skin from the earlier years to keep looking young and fresh!
